How to Simply Make a Paper Fan?
- Cut the Body: Use cardstock-weight paper to cut an oval measuring 11 inches by 8 inches.
- Mark the Center: Place the oval on a flat surface with the 11-inch side horizontal. Find and mark the bottom center point.
- Prepare the Ribs: Cut three 10-inch strips of light to midweight cardboard, each about 1/2 inch wide. Stack one end of each strip at the marked center point.
- Position the Strips: Angle one strip left, center the second vertically, and angle the third right, spacing them 3 to 4 inches apart.
- Trim and Glue: Trim the strips to fit within the oval’s edges. Glue them to the oval, keeping the ends stacked at the center.
- Repeat for the Other Side: Repeat steps 3-5 for the opposite side of the fan.
- Make the Handle: Cut two strips of cardboard, each 6 inches by 1 inch. Taper one end of each strip to a point and glue them together, leaving the pointed ends free.
- Attach the Handle: Insert the bottom edge of the oval between the pointed ends, covering the stacked strips. Glue the handle in place.
- Add Tissue Paper: Cover the fan with tissue paper, gluing it at the edges and along the three strips. Trim excess paper.
- Finish the Handle: Wrap the handle with a long strip of tissue paper, securing it at both the top and bottom with glue.
